About Us

  1. Hello Gaia!
My name is Courtney Castaños and I am a former Stevenson (’07) alum. I’ve been really enjoying your Spring 2014 Issue of Gaia and I couldn’t help but notice the commonalities between your student run magazine and a new, local, elementary student created nature blog, Ramblin’ Adventures (ramblinadventureclub.tumblr.com). This is a blog I help my outdoor adventure students create each month to showcase the different local trails they explore and flora and fauna they study. So if you’d ever like to write an article about the youngest investigative reporters in town feel free to contact me and I can set up an interview with some of the finest adventurers.

    Best Wishes,
    Courtney Castaños

  2. On Saturday, May 2nd from 9-1pm, the Coastal Watershed Council, in partnership with the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, will hold the 16th Annual Snapshot Day! Snapshot Day is an annual event that provides a “snapshot” of the health of rivers and streams that flow into the Monterey Bay.

Hundreds of community volunteers are needed to go out and test these waters throughout the central coast of California during this one day event.

You can participate in a training session on Saturday, April 25th from 10 am – noon at the Santa Cruz Yacht Harbor’s Public Meeting Room.

Then you can use your new skills and join the action-filled outdoor event on May 2nd and help your local watershed! You’ll also connect with others, appreciate nature, and learn the basics of watershed science.

For information, call the Coastal Watershed Council at (831) 464-9200 or visit us online at http://www.coastal-watershed.org.
